In the modern world, delinquent Urameshi Yusuke finds himself with a new job and a new life after getting run over by car by saving a child. He was revived when he was chosen to become a spirit detective—the job that led him to save the world with newfound companions. The four spirit detectives consist of Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei.

URAMESHI Yūsuke – 浦飯 幽助

Yusuke is the leader of the Spirit Detectives, but aside from being a leader, he is a son, a friend, and a boy. Adjusting to his new life, he was able to make new friends, to protect his home, and to get a second chance at life.

Kurama was the first recruit Yusuke met as he was assigned to retrieve three stolen ancient artifacts. Because of Kurama’s desire for his mother to be happy, Yusuke decided to help him as he knew of a mother’s despair over her deceased child. Yusuke did not wish to have Kurama’s mother in despair as he left his own mother.

KUWABARA Kazuma – 桑原 和真

Kuwabara is the comedic character of the series, but he is the comedic character with a heart of gold. From loving kittens to caring for his friends, Kuwabara’s character is important as he has a strong sense of humanity among the four. Although he often quarrels with Yusuke and Hiei, Kuwabara never carries intentions of hurting any of his friends or any one he deems “good”.

The swiftest and mysterious character of the group. Hiei relies on himself for much of the time, but gradually warms up to his fellow detectives. He has great strength and fighting skills, which makes him an asset in the group, but he lacks in social skills and a sense of humanity. He is a man of his word as he continues to keep his promise of never revealing to Yukina that he is the brother she is searching for.
