Perhaps I lied a little when I said origin, but I was really speaking of the origin of the website, not the pairing if the word history confused you; although, many fans have questioned who was the first to create the crossover pairing, but nobody knows who the first Kurama/Kagome author is. If we back tracked to the earliest fanfic, there is a possible chance that it isn’t the fanfic, so just enjoying the pairing is all we can really do.
When I first discovered the pairing, I was in a phase of reading Sesshoumaru/Kagome and the occasional Sesshoumaru/Kagome/Naraku, but since there was a lack of good fanfics, my reading was slowing down. When I would browse Fanfiction.Net, I would occasionally see crossover fanfiction with Yu Yu Hakusho. I had never watched or read Yu Yu Hakusho at the time, and since I was a hard-core Inuyasha fan, I never once considered trying a new series.
Like almost every other day, browsed through the fanfiction in hopes of finding a story that would catch my interest. I was really bored that day and nothing had caught my interest. My memory is a bit blurry, but I believe it was a summary that caught my eye and had me intrigued; it happened to be a crossover and the main pairing is the pairing I still love today. I decided to give the fanfic a chance and I ended up enjoying it to the point where I wanted to read more, especially of Kurama/Kagome.
I can’t recall which fanfic it was that pulled me into the fandom, but I do remember the fic that made me fall madly in love with the two. I want to give credit to Sylvannastar and her story The Strongest Ties for keeping me in the fandom with her unique storyline and great moments.
When I joined the Kurama/Kagome fandom, I was also going through a phase of joining Yahoo! Groups, and so I was curious if there were any groups for the two because I wanted to read more fanfiction. I had looked in search engines and found nothing, but after realizing I wouldn’t find anything through Googling, I tried searching in Yahoo! Groups, and to my surprise, I found the Kurama and Kurama Yahoo! Group with fans and fanfiction fresh off the press, and being the Y! Groups joiner I was, I happily joined the group.
When I read enough fanfics to learn the story of Yu Yu Hakusho and Kurama’s past, I couldn’t help but be in love with his character, but at the time I didn’t want to tell anyone of my fandom. I did tell Sasa about really liking Kurama and the pairing, so the next day after talking to her about Kurama, she had given me a link to a site with Kurama images! I was in love~ My obsession with Kurama gradually grew, and he one one of the male characters that I respect and adore.
Because I loved Kurama so much, Kurama/Kagome were and are the only crossover fanfiction I read. The other pairing never really caught my eye like Kurama and Kagome did. I was also lucky that there was an abundant amount of fanfiction that I was able to read, although updated fanfiction make me much more happier than short new fanfics.
I think it was about half a year into the fandom when I decided I wanted to make a fansite for the two, but with what Photoshop skills and coding knowledge I had was so poor and limited, I had a rocky start on the site. I worked on 56k, which doesn’t help if you want to check coding and edit it continuously. When I finished making a layout and setting it up, I uploaded it to the GeoCities account I created since I had no money for a domain, but I didn’t even know what domains were then either. I showed the site to fellow Yahoo!Group members since I wanted to ask for fanart and other fanworks, but that didn’t work out too well either since the majority of their skills were fanfiction based. Yay fanfiction!
Later, things changed when I moved. Our internet went from 56k to DSL, which is really great when working on websites. I learned more techniques on what to do in Photoshop, and when I felt like I needed to change the layout for the account on GeoCities, I showed Sasa and she was in more shock that I had a website for them. She knew I liked the pairing, but she never knew to what extent.
Although Sasa isn’t the Kurama/Kagome fan that Summer and I are, she supports us and our loved pairing. She also helps out web and graphic wise when it comes to our silly large updates after not updating at all. She likes to help us, and well, I find that her help makes Imaginative Love a lot better every update. By helping us, I would also think it helps sharpen her HTML skills since they are even better than what she did the last time.
To sum it all up, this site was based on my adoration for a crossover pairing and the boredom I had when there was a lack of fanfction, and honestly, I never would have thought my first and successful shrine would have been a crossover pairing. The thought of closing it never crossed my mind because it’s sort of two character shrine combined in one, and I respect and adore these two characters. I always think about making another shrine, but I never have time, but in the end, I always seem to have time for this pairing, and maybe it’s because of its impact in my life. I started to draw more, and the Yu Yu Hakusho anime was probably the start of broadening my anime horizons. Not to mention, I typed more fanfiction than before.
Of course it’s silly to say that a crossover pairing, a pairing which is looked down upon to many loyal canon and in the same series relationship supporters, changed me a little, but it’s my honest opinion and how I feel. I guess I’m thankful I support these two and this site shows it. Other than changing me, this pairing gave me a really good friend, Summer! It’s hard to believe that my random review on her fanfic, SBC under her pen name MusiqMistress, led to a beautiful friendship! Right Summer?
As time went on, I’ve tried to install many things to keep this site interesting, and I hope to keep everyone happy~ ♥
